FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are answers to my patients’ frequently asked questions. If there is something I’ve missed, please don’t hesitate to ask. For more information, get in touch. I look forward to meeting you soon.
HOW LONG SHOULD I BOOK FOR?
For first time clients I would highly recommend booking a 90 minute session. Typically a client will have a number of sites that require attention on the first couple of visits. Once you have had two or three 90 minute sessions, the time required usually drops to 45 minutes to one hour.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?
At your first appointment I will require you to complete an intake form which advises me as to any existing health concerns that you may have, your contact details, your treating doctor's details, any allergies you may have etc. This process takes about 10 minutes. It therefore pays to come in about 10 minutes early for your first treatment.
Once I know of your relevant history I will start your treatment. This will involve a hands on approach to locate hypertonic tissue (tight spots) and use the desired technique to loosen that tissue.
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?
Massage is not meant to be very painful. Deep tissue and trigger point therapy does require pressure to be applied to hypertonic tissue, which can be painful but not to a degree that causes distress. For best results the pain should be at a tolerable level which decreases over time. It is important to communicate with your therapist so that pain is kept at a tolerable level. Many clients enjoy the feeling of pressure on tight muscles and feel much more relaxed after treatment.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Clients can wear what they feel safe and secure in, however, because massage involves the touch receptors of the hands finding and working on hypertonic tissue, the client will typically have just underwear on and be covered by a towel. Private areas such as breasts and inner legs are always covered by a towel.
Whilst some people might avoid treatment if they feel ashamed of their body and not want to be viewed in minimal clothing, the therapist has seen people of all shapes and sizes and is here to help you, not judge people on their looks - so please don't let this prevent you from getting the treatment that you need.

Clients can bring an adult companion to the treatment session if they want to feel safe and any client under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
